La Plastique | 2018-2021
In 2018 I started my own company called La Plastique, LP for short. With LP, I design and create artisan keycaps for mechanical keyboards. The keycaps are made by combining traditional casting techniques and 3D printing, both processes using resin. The challenge to overcome is fitting a 3D design inside a keycap, a tiny object with stringent limitations. Yet, it so perfectly combines my love for crafting and creative problem-solving.
The keycap that I’m most proud of is the Snowglobe keycap. It took months of designing and various prototypes to get just right. I still remember the skeptical look people gave me when I presented them with the first prototype. Snowglobe is by far my favorite project because it took the art of crafting keycaps to the next level. A hollow keycap with actual liquid inside that looks great and works as a snowglobe. It even exceeded my own expectations.
In the future, I want to keep pushing my keycaps to reach the next level. Every now and then I take a break for a couple of months to let that hunger for crafting build up again. That’s when the best ideas come to me.
